Family Night Fun

On Monday nights we love to sing songs together as a family. Carter and McKay each have songs that they request each week. They sing the songs and do the actions with Daddy while I play the piano. We thought we would capture the boys in action... Enjoy!

Our New House

This past weekend we went house hunting in Denver. We were lucky enough to have Grandma Larsen watch the boys so that we could just focus for three days on finding a house. We looked at many homes (previously owned and new construction) and found one builder that was offering awesome incentives with unbelievable upgrades. It was located in a nice part of southeast Aurora and was just too hard to pass up. This will be a great home for us to grow into and stay in for a long while. We are excited to move in when the construction is finished next month.

Halloween From Years Past

With Halloween just around the corner, we thought it would be fun to look back on Halloween from years past.

Soccer Season Begins...

Carter started a fall soccer league this week. He is on a team with four of his friends from the ward and the coach is the dad of one of the boys(aka Coach J). The team name they chose was the Great White Sharks. As always it is so fun to watch the kids in action. Whenever the ball would come towards Carter, he would get so excited that he would forget to actually kick the ball! However, at the end of the game he was very proud at ALMOST making a goal and couldn't wait to get the treats.

McKay's First Day of Playschool

McKay just started playschool with some of his little friends. This time it is much easier than the preschool that I did with Carter. Another mom is heading it up, so I didn't have to, and we are doing a structured Mother Goose program. It is really cute and McKay was so excited when I told him he got to go to school. He is at the stage where he loves to copy whatever Carter does. So he needed a new backpack, which of course has Cookie Monster on it, and had to stand in front of the door for his first day of school picture. He was so proud!!!

Melissa's Birthday

We celebrated Melissa's birthday this past week. She's now the big 29! On Sunday I made a nice steak dinner and we did cake and presents. Then last night we got a babysitter and went to Macaroni Grill and the play My Fair Lady at the local playhouse. It was a lot of fun. For presents, the boys and I mainly gave her gift cards to buy winter clothes. No more capris and flip-flops for 10 months of the year!

Seller in a Buyer's Market

Our house has been on the market a little over a week now, although things haven't gone as well as we hoped. Our realtor (who was strongly recommended to us) has been a real klutz - she lost our listing agreement, listed our home with a picture of the neighbors house (no joke), listed the wrong phone number, etc. Needless to say, we didn't have any showings the first week. I finally had to put my attorney-hat on and lay down the law with her. Since then things have gone better - she fixed the mistakes, we've had two showings, and we're having an open house this Sunday. The market is pretty bad for sellers right now, so we're keeping our expectations in check. If your interested, here's the link to our virtual tour.

Denver or Bust!!!

We're Moving to Denver!!! I got a job offer to join Davis, Graham & Stubbs in Denver as an associate in their natural resources department! They had an open position for an oil & gas attorney so I submitted my resume, they flew me up to interview, and just recently called and offered me the job!! They are a much larger firm (about 100 attorneys) and one of the more established firms in Denver. We are so excited!!

At the same time, it is definitely going to be a BIG transition for us. It will be hard to tell my firm I'm leaving, hard to tell our ward and friends we are leaving, and hard to sell our house (especially in a buyer's market). Never did we think we would only be here for two years. Corpus Christi has been very good to us and it will be sad to leave.

We've already selected a realtor and we're getting ready to put our house on the market. It looks like I'll probably start work in Denver the first part of November while Melissa and the boys stay in Corpus until Thanksgiving. Things have been such a whirlwind for us and will continue to be so, I'm sure, so wish us luck.

Home Improvement Fever

As you can tell, we've been pretty busy this summer with home improvement projects. We've never liked the decor in our kitchen and bedroom and finally got around to doing something about it. In July, we tackled our bedroom and repainted it from deep forest green to more of a sage green. Then I spent one Saturday replacing our porcelain kitchen sink with a stainless steel sink and new faucet. In August we went to work stripping the wallpaper border from the kitchen. We didn't think it would be too bad, but boy were we wrong. The original homeowners had put the border right onto the sheet rock so it was almost impossible to get off. Once we had scraped and clawed the border off, the sheetrock needed to be patched and textured. We cursed their names more than once. We had planned on texturing and doing the painting ourselves, but by then we were so burned out we just hired a guy who didn't speak much English to do it.

BYU 20, Arizona 7

The BYU football season is finally here!! We upgraded our satelite package just in time to get the game and invited some friends over for a watch party complete with fajitas and all the fixin's. The Cougars didn't play perfect (the kicking game needs work), but the new QB did pretty good for his first start. UCLA will give BYU all they can handle next week though. I hope we can just make a game out of it and keep it close. But a win would be awesome.

In other action, the Utes got devasted by Oregon State. Aside from the score, Utah's QB separated his shoulder and their running back broke his leg. I was actually hoping for them to win for the good of the conference.

Carter's First Day of School

Carter had his first day of school yesterday. He was so excited! The day went well and he came skipping out of the door when I came to pick him up at the end of the day. He couldn't wait to tell me everything that he did that day. I think he is really going to love it. However, it will be a big adjustment for all of us not having him around in the mornings anymore.
