BYU football

We were pumped and ready to watch some BYU football this year! In preparation for the season, Lamont watched many highlight videos and we were ready for a great start. First, we had a house full of people for a fun watching party for the first game of the season. BYU had moments of concern, but we were able to pull off a win against Washington. It was fun to cheer on the cougars with friends.

Then it was time to attend the BYU - Air Force game. Lamont bought 74 tickets for ward members AND my parents and sister came to Denver to join in the festivities. We were prepared to have a great BYU cheering section! Once we finally made it to the game after sitting in traffic for a very long time (McKay had a soccer game that morning so we got off late), we got there just in time to see BYU score their second touchdown of the game. It was all downhill from there. I think the team just fell apart and everything seemed to go wrong. Unfortunately in that game the cougars didn't give us much to cheer about. After the game it was off to our favorite Texas BBQ, Rudy's, to drown our sorrows in BBQ sauce. Boy, was it delicious!

We have decided that this is a rebuilding year for the Cougars and hope with a little more work they can still pull off a decent season. GO COUGARS!

A 4-wheelin' Labor Day

On labor day, we went with some friends of ours, the Collards and Lucks, to do some 4-wheeling out past Colorado Springs in the Woodland Park area. It was very beautiful up there and the perfect weather. We had some fun buzzing along the dirt roads. At first, Tanner was a little scared and then decided that he was having fun until he fell asleep. That made for a tricky ride for the Lamont for a little while. McKay wasn't so sure about the ride, but I must admit that I tipped the 4-wheeler at the very beginning. No one was injured but McKay was a little concerned the rest of the way. I am not sure who had the most fun, Carter or Lamont. Both just loved it! Tanner woke up just in time as we got back to camp with a big smile on his face. We were able to enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch at our campsite before we had to get our tired and dirty boys back home.

School's In

This school year went off with a bang the day after we got back from Texas. Carter is still at the Challenge School with the same teacher since they do 1st and 2nd grade grouping. Once they were finished explaining the "boring rules" then school was great again. He was even the first student to take home the stuffed dragon Chartreuse and write a narrative from the dragon's perspective - that made his day!

McKay missed the deadline to start kindergarten by two weeks, so he is doing private kindergarten at Holy Love School. He goes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday all day. The full day has been a little bit of an adjustment for him. However, he is really enjoying school also and his teachers are impressed with his knowledge. He told me that his favorite part of the day is lunch. He always comes home with a smile and we have been happy with the school.

Our trip to the Lone Star State

In August we had an enjoyable trip to Texas. It was a great family time. We were able to spend ten days with family barbecuing, swimming, and just enjoying one anothers company. Carter, McKay, and Tanner really enjoyed spending some time with their cousins.

A highlight of the trip included Lamont's brother Chase returning home from his 2 year mission to Bogota, Colombia. It was wonderful to greet him at the airport. Due to delays in his flight, it ended up being a late night but we were still there to meet him. The boys even made signs to welcome him home. We enjoyed spending the next several days with him learning about Colombia and helping him prepare to return to BYU the next week.

The other highlight was Lamont's youngest brother, Reece, receiving his Eagle in scouting. He is the last of seven brothers to receive this award. For his project he painted a map of the world at a local elementary school. We were so proud of him and all the work he did to receive this award and walk in his brother's footsteps.

What a good looking family! I can't help but think that it is only a matter of time until we are fully immersed in scouting and our boys will be standing up there to receive their eagles.
