Happy Mother's Day

For Mother's Day, the boys and I took Melissa to Macaroni Grill on Saturday night. Today at church Carter sang with the Primary kids in Sacrament and then I made dinner - paprika chicken w/rice, vegetable, and fruit salad. Carter had made a little jewelry box in preschool for Melissa and he was so proud of himself that he kept it a secret the whole week.

Father's and Sons Campout

Friday night Carter and I went on the ward father and son campout. Carter had been eagerly awaiting the campout for weeks. He helped me pitch the tent and then he rolled out his Elmo sleeping bag. We roasted hot dogs, made peach cobbler in the dutch oven, and had a campfire program with marshmallows and smores. By the time the campfire was over, Carter was tuckered out and ready for bed. It was nice to get to bed early and not have to worry about the young men running around all night. We headed home Saturday morning and McKay was so excited to see us. He missed Carter. But the little boy will have to wait until next year - you've got to be out of diapers to go on the father's and sons camp.

Carter's Preschool Class

This is Carter's last week of preschool. It's sure been a lot of fun for him and he's become pretty good friends with the other kids. One of the mom's putting together a preschool graduation this week for all the families, with hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. so that should be fun.

UPDATE:

Carter has officially graduated from his first year of preschool. The mom who put together the graduation did an awesome job of making caps, gowns, dipolmas, and even a slide presentation for each family. It was too fun! Carter is so proud of himself and I can tell that he and all the others kids learned so much this past year. It was a lot of work to put together, but I am so glad I did the preschool for him this year.

Happy Anniversary

Yesterday we celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. Last year we went to Puerta Vallarta to celebrate, so this time we kept it pretty low key. We got a babysitter and went out to Outback Steakhouse and then to see a movie. We also pulled out our wedding video, which we hadn't seen in forever. It sure brought back good memories. It seems like the years have flown by so fast, but at the same time, life before we were married or before the boys seems so long ago. It has sure been six good years!

Hooks Baseball

We have recently been to a couple of Hooks baseball games and even got to sit in a suite with some friends. The boys just love going and even watch most of the game. The best part of the game for McKay is visiting with Rusty the Hook or Sammy the Seagull. Carter loves the players and got his favorite player Johnny Ash to even sign his baseball cap. Carter was also able to run in the Hooks birthday run with Sammy the Seagull on his actual birthday. That night there was a double header and we went during the second game to prepare for the birthday run out on the baseball field only to find out that they had cancelled it. I think when they saw the look of disappointment in Carter's eyes and found out it was his actual birthday they decided to hold the run before the seventh inning and rounded up a couple more kids to do the run. They let Carter be in the front with Sammy the whole time. As Carter was running across the field there was a look of pure joy on his face. Below is the after picture with him and Sammy.

Carter's Birthday Party

Carter recently celebrated his 4th birthday. In fact, he had three celebrations! He was able to celebrate with the Moreton's at Chuck E. Cheese, we had our own family party followed by a Hooks game, and then he had a birthday party with his little friends. The friend party was a riot and the kids had a blast eating hot dogs and hitting the pinata. It was a fun party, but now we all need time to recuperate. Thanks Uncle Bryce for all your help in keeping the kids happy too!

Easter Sunday

We had a very nice Easter. Carter and McKay found some surprises in their Easter baskets from the bunny and enjoyed going on a little Easter candy hunt. McKay was ready to eat his candy as soon as he found it. It was nice to celebrate with family too. We had an enjoyable ham dinner and ended the night with a fun game of Ticket to Ride Expansion.

Vacation with the Moretons

My family was here in town for a visit this past week. We had a blast. To hit the highlights, we spent a night at the timeshare in New Braunfels (and even got the presidential suite!!!), went to Sea World the next day, and had Rudy's BBQ two nights in a row. Can you say creamed corn and brisket!! We also spent Easter together and celebrated my mom's birthday along with Carter's too. The only bummer was that here in Corpus it was sooo cold and rainy. It even got down into the 30's which is unheard of here in April. I guess we'll have to save the beach for next time.

Houston Zoo

This week Lamont had a conference for work in Houston. The boys and I decided to tag along and stay in a nice hotel and eat at nice restaurants with him. However, on Friday while he was in his conference all day we had to keep ourselves occupied. So, I decided to brave the Houston traffic and freeways and took the boys to the zoo. They loved it! We spent about five hours there and I hardly heard a whine the whole time. They were very good boys and enjoyed every minute of it. We saw the whole entire zoo (minus the reptiles). It is a cute zoo with a children's zoo and even a small aquarium, which McKay loved. Here is a picture of the boys playing in the children's zoo.

Carter's First T-Ball Game

This morning was Carter's first T-Ball game. He's on the Pirates, along with two of his friends from church. He is so proud of his uniform - #1 of course. The game was a riot to watch. The coaches are doing good just to get the kids running in the right direction. Carter had a blast, and especially loved the post-game treats!!

San Antonio Temple

On Friday we were able to go to the San Antonio temple to see our good friends Mark & Anissa Wakefield receive their endowments. Mark is my home-teaching companion and asked me to be his escort. He joined the church when he was 17 and then went into the Navy and slowly drifted into inactivity. Fast forward 15 years to 2006, he and Anissa and their two kids moved to Corpus and he decided it was time to get involved with the church again. He called up the missionaries and soon Anissa was baptized - and Mark performed the ordinance. Now they were able to go to the temple and receive their endowments and be sealed together as a family. It was a great session and we felt honored to be a part of it.

P.S. When the missionaries first taught Anissa about propehts, Mark piped up - who's the prophet now, is it still Ezra Taft Benson??

The Things He Remembers...

I have told this story to some, but it still amazes me. About a week ago I was eating lunch with the boys and Carter saw that our bag of pretzels cost $2.49 and he said, "Oh 249, that's Called to Serve. Mommy, what's 248?" I said that I didn't know and he said, "Well, I think it's Wake Up Ye Defenders of Zion. Am I right? Can you go check?" I went over to the Hymn book and sure enough told him that it said "Up Awake, Ye Defenders of Zion". Then he answered, "oh, I guess I was wrong, it's Up Awake, not Wake Up."
